  1. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.
 
                          1.         Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)
 
 
    2.         Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School 2A & 2B     Addition Projects (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
 
3.         Construction Status Reports for the Aiken High School Phase 2A Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
 
4.         Aiken Rotary Club Presentation:  Rotary Reader Program, Dictionary Program and Scholarship Program.
 
 
 
B.           CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
1.         Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Alford)
 
            The School Board, according to the Code of Laws of South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 
2.         Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mr. Laurence)
 
            Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
 
 
3.         Request to Admit Foreign Exchange Student (Mr. Laurence) - This item was pulled on 11-13-17
 
            School Board Policy JFABB establishes guidelines for the admission of the exchange students to the high schools in the School District of Aiken County.
 
 
 
4.         Remain at Home Senior Care, LLC Donation to Redcliffe Elementary School – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Redcliffe Elementary was given a $3,000.00 donation from Remain at Home Senior Care, LLC.  The funds from this donation will be used for general classroom supplies, headphones, microphones, a laptop, ink, chairs, professional development refreshments, and teacher supplies.
 
 
 
5.         Remain at Home Senior Care, LLC Donation to Silver Bluff High School ROTC – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Silver Bluff High School ROTC was given a $3000.00 donation from Remain at Home Senior Care, LLC.  The funds from this donation will be used to defray student cost associated with field trips, summer camps, and other NJROTC events.  Some funds will be utilized to cover transportation costs.  Remaining funds will be used for classroom and training supplies.
 
 
 
6.         Premier Construction Services Inc. donation to Kennedy Middle School – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Kennedy Middle School was given a $1,500.00 donation from Premier Construction Services Inc.  The funds from this donation will be used for landscaping, curb appeal, and building/grounds improvements.
 
 
 
7.         Iorio Charitable Foundation Donation to Oakwood Windsor Elementary School – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Oakwood Windsor Elementary School was given a $7000.00 donation from Iorio Charitable Foundation.  The funds from this donation will be used to purchase non-fiction books for the Media Center, reimburse travel for professional development attendance, and purchase instructional resources.
 
 
 
8.         Change Order Number 1 for the South Aiken High Visitor’s Side Restroom & Concession Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            Change Order Number 1 for the South Aiken High Visitor’s Side Restroom & Concession Project unused allowances for this project are in the credit amount of $62,843.18.
 
 
 
9.         Submission of Grant Application by the Business Services Department for the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant – FY18 (Mr. Traxler)
 
            The Business Services Department would like to submit a grant application for a $49,569.18 South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant.  The non-competitive grants program provides funding for the one-time purchase of a product or service that supports a member district’s risk management objectives.
 
 
 
10.       Western Carolina State Fair Donation to the Aiken County Career and Technology Center – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            The Aiken County Career Center and Technology Center was given a $2,000 donation from Western Carolina State Fair.  The funds from this donation will be used to support the criminal justice program at the Career Center.

            The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principals and Executive Directors.
