  1. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.
  1.       Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)
 
2.         Facilities Construction Department Quarterly Change Order Notification (Dr. Foster)
 
            Policy FGG sets the limit of approval for constructions change orders by the Superintendent or designee up to $15,000.00.  The policy requires a summary of such change orders to be presented to the Board at least once a quarter for notification.
 
  1. CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
1.         Change Order Number 1 for the HVAC Renovation Project at Aiken Elementary, North Augusta Elementary, Redcliffe Elementary and Replace Chiller Plant at Silver Bluff High (Dr. Foster)
 
            Change Order Number 1 for the HVAC Renovation Project at Aiken Elementary, North Augusta Elementary, Redcliffe Elementary and Replace Chiller Plant at Silver Bluff High Project from H.G. Reynolds Company, Inc. is presented for your review and approval.  Additional items were required to be done per OSF.  Change Order Number 1 in the amount of $39,079.00 is submitted for your review and approval.
 
 
2.         Proposed 2018-2019 Budget Calendar (Mr. Traxler)
 
            Board Policy DBG requires that the Aiken County Board of Education adopt a budget calendar by November 1 each year.
 
 
3.         Request for Approval for Home Instruction (Dr. Foster)
 
            The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina, Section 59-6540, is authorized to approve home schooling for parents not opting for approval by the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools.  The program has to meet certain standards as outlined in the bill, Policy IEK and IEK-R.
 
 
4.         Public Education Partners Classroom Grant to Jackson Middle School – FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Jackson Middle School was awarded a $1060.00 Classroom Grant from Public Education Partners.  The funds from this grant will be used to purchase instructional materials to enhance STEM and Science instruction within sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes.
 
 
  1. INDIVIDUAL ITEMS:
 
1.         Personnel Appointments (Ms. Smalls)
 
            The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principals and Executive Directors.
 
 
2.         Changes to Policy LDA and Administrative Rule LDA-R Student Teaching and Internships – Final Reading (Mr. Laurence)
 
            Policy LDA establishes the basic structure for student teaching and internships.  In the past the district’s primary relationship for internships was with USC Aiken. While the district still enjoys that relationship, a variety of other institutions, including online colleges and universities, have sought to partner with SCPSD to place interns.
 
 
3.         New Course Approval for Cambridge Thematic Program at Aiken High School (Dr. Alford)
 
            Aiken High School will become the first Cambridge school in the state of South Carolina beginning the 2018-2019 school year.  Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds.  It is recognized by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is am international passport to progression and success.  Developed over 25 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide.
 
 
4.         Funding Flexibility for the Quarter Ending December 31, 2017 (Mr. Traxler)
 
Under provisos 1.28, 1.33 and 1A.14 for Fiscal Year 2017-2018, all school districts and special schools of this State may transfer and expend funds "to ensure the delivery of academic and arts instruction to students" with certain limitations.  Among the requirements, each district's board and superintendent must certify the specific flexibility actions taken.  The certification must be in writing, signed by the board chairman and superintendent, and delivered electronically to the State Superintendent of Education.  An electronic copy must be sent to the SC Department of Education which will subsequently forward the information to the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, the Chairman of the Senate Educaton Committee, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and the Chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee.  The certification must be posted on the district's website.
