A.     INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require      Board action.
 
1.         Construction Status Reports for the Leavelle McCampbell Middle School Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
2.         Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School 2A & 2B Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
3.          Construction Status Reports for the Aiken High School Phase 2A Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
               In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board's review.
 
 
              4.         Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)
 
 
B.  CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
 
1.         Out-of-District Transfer Request (Mr. Laurence)
 
            Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school district for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district”.
 
 
2.         Public Education Partners Donation to New Ellenton Middle School – FY17 (Dr. Washington)
 
            New Ellenton Middle School was awarded $5,391 from Public Education Partners to purchase nine Fischertechnik STEM Robotics Kits for the classroom.  Funds were made possible for this project through Public Education Partners partnering with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
 
 
3.         FY17 Application for Title II, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (Dr. Washington)
 
            The State Department of Education has projected an allocation of $883,608.48 to Aiken County Public School District for Title II, Part A, “Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers, Principals, and Other School Leaders.”  The purpose of Title II is to increase student achievement consistent with the challenging State academic standards; improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders; and increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools.
 
 
4.         Local School Board Elective Courses for 2016-2017 (Cabinet approved on 3/28/16 and 8/8/16) (Dr. Washington and Mr. Laurence)
 
            Middle Schools and High Schools submit Local School Board Elective Course Forms throughout the school year.  The courses are approved at the Cabinet Level and the new courses are submitted to the Board for final approval.
 
           
 
C.        INDIVIDUAL ITEMS:
 
1.         Personnel Appointments (Ms. Smalls)
 
            The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principal and Executive Directors.
 
 
2.         Changes to Administrative Rule AR IJOA Field Trips – Final Reading (Mr. Laurence)         
 
            The District’s present rule requires that all out of state and overnight field trips be submitted to the superintendent’s cabinet for approval.  It also makes reference to academic officers and includes no specific provision for international travel.
 
 
3.         Policy BID – Proposed Amendment to Board Policy BID Board Member Compensation and Expenses – First Reading (Mr. Burkhalter and Mr. Traxler)
 
            Policy BID establishes the compensation guidelines for members of the school board and area advisory councils.  There has been no substantive change in the policy since September 1992.  Board and area council pay has remained unchanged for more than 20 years.
