3.         Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)

  1. CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

1.         Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Alford)

The School Board, according to the Code of Laws of South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.

2.         Out-Of-district Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe)

Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”

3.         Online Curriculum Management System (Mr. Laurence)

The Division of Instruction and Accountability curriculum staff has been working with teams of teachers for the past four years to develop and maintain the Aiken County Public School District curriculum.  That curriculum is currently housed on the school district website.  This method for housing the curriculum has proven inefficient and cumbersome for teachers because of the inconsistencies in format and the inability to align subject areas. Schools are not able to make adjustments to the curriculum based on thematic approaches, nor are teachers able to make adjustments based on formative assessment data.

4.         Change Order Number 2 for the North Augusta High School Addition Project Phase 1 (Dr. Foster)

Change Order Number 2 for the North Augusta High School Addition Project Phase 1 for unused allowances for this project in the credit amount of $240,660.00.

6.         Design Development Presentation and Budget for the Aiken High School Addition Phase 2A Project (Dr. Foster)

As part of the agreement between the Architects for this project (LS3P) and the administration, the architect shall present the proposed design development plans and budget to the Aiken County School Board for approval.  The current project budget is $37,218,196.00.  LS3P will provide a revised detailed cost estimate and project budget summary to the board on January 12, 2016.  The overall budget has a 5% contingency.  The administration is reviewing estimates and minimum scope changes.
